Found near the base of sheltered dry sides of ancient Holly Ilex aquifolium and, more rarely Oak Quercus spp. in ancient woodland. It is now known from at least six Cornish sites. Elsewhere it occurs in Wales (Cardigan), north Devon and south-west Ireland (Kerry).
