Range & Status

It occurs low on the shore to about 37m (attached by byssus or free-moving) from Africa to south-west England and the Channel Islands. Shells have been found in SA19, living animals in SA16 and SA18/VC1/VC2. A southern species distributes south to the Iberian Peninsula, into the Mediterranean and along the coast of Africa to Senegal.
