Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Dasineura odoratae

Range & Status

Diptera: Cecidomyiidae; local.

Regional Distribution

VC2: SX35 East of Trerulefoot in 2008, a first record for Cornwall.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated species: Sweet Violet Viola odorata . Galls are a roll on one or both sides

of leaf and are often hairy; larvae inside rolled leaf are white when young, later turning

orange-yellow. Dasineura species making similar galls on different Viola species were split up in 1982 but this needs further research and confirmation.
