Range & Status
Builds tubes on weeds in brackish lagoons, ditches and rivers. It is found in coastal saline lagoons from Dorset to the Wash and is locally common in Hampshire and could well be found on all southern and eastern coasts (Bamber, 2008). Records exist from as far north as Northumberland and it has been reported from the Fal and Tamar (MBA, 1957) but is probably under-recorded.
