Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Schoenoplectus x kuekenthalianus

Range & Status

S. x kuekenthalianus ( S. tabernaemontani x S. triqueter ) is believed to still occur on the Rivers Medway and the Arun (Stace, 1997).

Regional Distribution

Restricted to the River Tamar near Calstock (SX46). It was last recorded on the Cornish bank in 2003.

Habitat & Ecology

An estuarine plant of tidal mud.

The lack of Schoenoplectus triqueter may be a threat to the long-term existence of this hybrid.

Most of the Cornwall side of the River Tamar bank near Calstock is unprotected.
