Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Platanthera bifolia - Lesser Butterfly-orchid

Lesser Butterfly-orchid was formerly more widespread, but it may still be seen in scrub and heath on the mid-Cornwall moors, such as Brynn Moor (SW96W, 1987, I.J.Bennallick), Retire Common (SX06B, 1992, I.J.Bennallick) and Pinsla Downs (SX16D, 1989, T.J.Dingle). It also grows in grassy heath in Luckett Reserve (SX37W, 1989, M.Atkinson), in Sylvia's Meadow, the orchid-rich reserve in St. Ann's Chapel (SX47A, 1987, E.Griffiths) and on Crousa Downs on the Lizard (SW71U, 1984, R.J.Murphy).
