Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Luzula multiflora - Many Headed Wood-rush

Heath Wood-rush is a common and widespread component of heaths and moors in Cornwall but is rare on the Isles of Scilly. It may also be found on woodland banks. In Stace (1997), Luzula multiflora is divided into three subspecies including ssp. multiflora and ssp. congesta which have been reported as present in Cornwall. In Rich & Jermy (1998) ssp. congesta is raised to species level and the difficulties of separating the two taxa are pointed out. For this reason a single map is given showing all records for L. multiflora and many of the records for the subspecies will have to be reconsidered.
