Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Fagopyrum esculentum - Buckwheat

Buckwheat has become a very rare arable weed, which occasionally occurs as a casual on waste tips. The only recent West Cornwall record was from a field where it was sown with a crop of mixed corn at Tehidy (SW64G, 1996, C.N.French). It proved to be poor at germinating and few plants could be located in the field. In East Cornwall it has been found at Ruan Lanihorne (SW84W, 1981, E.Graham), Scadghill Farm (SS21F, 1980, T.J.Dingle), Crafthole (SX35S, 1980, P.Madge) and Union Inn, Saltash (SX45J, 1990, S.C.Madge).
