Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Mentha x piperita - Peppermint

Peppermint is often found as a garden escape, but this hybrid between M. aquatica and M. spicata does occur naturally. It grows in damp places, particularly by streams, and has also been recorded in damp areas on the dunes around Hayle (SW53U & SW54Q). Recent records include by a stream at Boswednack (SW43N, 1997, C.N.French), Polzeath (SW97J, 1992, R.W.David), by a stream at Trewetha (SX07E, 1997, M.Atkinson), a stream bank at Gimble Mill (SX26P, 1997, M.Atkinson) and by a stream near Siblyback Farm (SX27G, 1997, D.Dupree). On the Isles of Scilly it is found on St. Mary's (SV91A, 1994, A.Underhill) and the Garrison (SV80Z, 1995, C.N.French).
