Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Xanthium spinosum - Spiny Cocklebur

Spiny Cocklebur is known to be a grain and bird seed alien. The few records from Cornwall are all pre-1980 and their location is consistent with this source. It was found at Eastern Green, Penzance in 1888 (SW43V, W.A.Glasson), Burlorne, near Wadebridge in 1911 (SX06E, W.Borlase), Carnkie, Redruth (SW63Z, L.J.Margetts) and below Gulval Carn in 1962 (SW43X, G.B.Miller).
