Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Fragaria ananassa - Garden Strawberry



An occasional and sometimes persistent garden escape which is found scattered throughout Cornwall. It is normally seen close to habitation but can occur as a garden throw-out on waste ground. Records include the dunes at Porthcurno beach (SW32W, 1997, C.N.French), mine waste at Lower Carnkie (SW64V, 1994, D.T.Holyoak), waste ground at St. Dennis Junction (SW95J, 1996, I.J.Bennallick), Tregony (SW94H, 1997, M.Tempest), Penpol (SW83E, 1980s, B.M.Sturdy) and along the Camel Trail near Sladesbridge (SX07A, 1997, I.J.Bennallick).
