Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Vicia lathyroides - Spring Vetch

F.H.Davey rejected this species for Cornwall in 1909. It had been reported at a few coastal sites but Davey considered that all the plants were ' some form of V. angustifolia' ( V. sativa ssp. nigra ). One of the records was for Pendennis Castle, Falmouth (1856, H.C.Bastian). In 1991 Spring Vetch was refound at Pendennis Castle growing in thin, dry, stony ground (SW83F, P.E.Tompsett, Botanical Cornwall, No. 6,10). There is also an unconfirmed report from Appletree Banks, Tresco (SV81X, 1971, J.E.Raven).
