Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Verbascum virgatum - Twiggy Mullein

Nationally Scarce, Twiggy Mullein is seen mostly in south east Cornwall growing on disturbed ground, on waste ground and on the softer, coastal cliffs. Elsewhere it is rather scattered, but has been recorded at Phillack and Upton Towans near Hayle (SW53U) for decades. In 1998 numerous plants were found on a dune slope on Phillack Towans by E.C.M.Haes. It is rare on the Isles of Scilly.
