Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Onopordum acanthium - Cotton Thistle

Cotton Thistle is a rare introduction which has been found naturalised in fields, waste ground and fixed dune grassland. It has been noticed on a number of occasions in the Gwithian and Godrevy area, most recently near Godrevy bridge (SW54W, 1998, P.A.Gainey). Other recent records are from Tregeseal Foundry (SW33Q, 1984, M.Cuddy), Kenidjack (SW33R, 1986, M.Cuddy), near Trevorrow Farm (SW53G, 1995, C.N.French) and Portreath (SW64S, 1993, D.T.Holyoak).
