Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Juncus maritimus - Sea Rush

Sea Rush grows in the upper limits of salt-marshes in estuaries, on rocky coastal shores, on raised beach deposits and, remarkably, on the Lizard Peninsula, on the heaths. Its presence here can be explained by the severe gales that blow salt far inland. It also occurs on the Isles of Scilly. Records include the cliff-top at Carn Du (SW42L, 1994, C.N.French), the cliff base at The Hutches (SW72Z, 1995, C.N.French), Predannack Airfield (SW61T, 1995, R.J.Murphy), Ruan Lanihorne (SW84V, 1997, M.Atkinson), the Gannel (SW86A, 1995, H.M.Meredith), Par beach (SX05R, 1998, I.J.Bennallick) and Landulph (SX46F, 1998, M.Atkinson).
