Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Lavatera thuringiaca - Hyeres Tree-mallow

This Tree-mallow has been recorded as Lavatera olbia. The two recent occurrences, reported as var. rosea, were thought to have been planted, which is obvious at Rosehill, Penzance (SW43Q, 1994, D.T.Holyoak), but less so by the sewage works near Porthtowan (SW74D, 1994, D.T.Holyoak). The older records are from a road verge at Bissoe (SW74Q, L.J.Margetts) and a waste tip at Newham, in Truro (SW84G, L.J.Margetts). Some of these records may be referrable to the hybrid L. thuringiaca x L. olbia .
