Flora of Cornwall (1999)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Flora of Cornwall (1999), which was a Tetrad Atlas (the maps had 2km square dots or Tetrads). The map on this web page depicts the plant's distribution at the 1km square scale and shows the records made pre-2000 which were used in the 1999 Flora and those made since.

Polystichum x bicknellii

The hybrid between P. aculeatum and P. setiferum was recorded growing at Chyverton Wood, near Zelah, in 1912, where no doubt it had originally been planted. In 1996 the hybrid was found again both at Trefrize Mill (SX37D, M.Atkinson) and in nearby Tregoiffe Wood (SX37D, M.Atkinson). These hybrids were confirmed by A.M. Paul (BM.). Both parents occur in this part of East Cornwall.
