Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Leuciscus leuciscus - Dace

Range & Status

This fish, which was possibly introduced into the Tamar catchment area, typically inhabits the middle reaches of rivers and streams. Here it requires a moderate current and clean cool water; it is locally common throughout the southern half of Britain but is scarce in the extreme south-west. In Cornwall it appears to be confined to rivers in the extreme east and north-east.
