Beris clavipes - A Soldier Fly



Range & Status

A scattered but wide distribution in England, Scotland and Wales.

Regional Distribution

Very widespread in Cornwall.

Habitat & Ecology

Occurs in marshes and fens, by streams or standing water. The adult flies in early summer to July; the larvae live in moss and debris in wet sites.

Threats

Drainage of sites & pollution.

Conservation

Many sites are on National Trust land.
