Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Protolaeospira striata

Range & Status

A warm-water species apparently restricted in Britain to the Channel Islands, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Recorded from Polridmouth, the Isles of Scilly, and Gulland Rock, Padstow. A benthic species, found in low eulittoral and shallow sublittoral down to 25m off Bryher (Isles of Scilly); a very small worm forming a translucent coiled tube some 2mm across; found on the lower sides of rocks in clear waters which are free of silt and sand. Long term increase in local sediments or suspended matter may threaten this species.
