Sphaerium corneum - Horny Orb Mussel

Range & Status

This is a common aquatic bivalve in Britain which is not threatened. It was discovered in Cornwall in 2001 in Argal Reservoir (SW73R). It has subsequently been found in Stithians Reservoir (SW73C). It is likely that this species has been introduced in Cornwall in these reservoirs with fish.
