Apion rubiginosum - A weevil



Range & Status

Formerly widespread in England, but has become increasingly scarce.

Regional Distribution

In east Cornwall pre-1970.

Habitat & Ecology

Larvae occur in galls on the roots of Sheep' s Sorrel Rumex acetosella , chiefly on dry, well drained soils.

Threats

Loss of semi-natural pastures through intensification of agricultural use or abandonment of grazing.

Conservation

None.
