Orchestes testaceus - Alder flea weevil



Range & Status

Formerly widespread across southern England, but has become very rare.

Regional Distribution

Discovered at Ruan Lanihorne in 1978 (Foster, 1996) and still there in 2003.

Habitat & Ecology

Feeds on the fresh foliage of Alder Alnus glutinosa in late spring.

Threats

None known.

Conservation

The only Cornish locality lies within an important SSSI. This species is listed on the UK BAP Priority Species list (2007).
