The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Arthonia anglica - a lichen

Range & Status

On smooth bark of Beech Fagus sylvatica and Holly Ilex aquifolium in ancient woodland in southern England (north-east Cornwall and north Devon). Elsewhere known from Madeira. No immediate threats to this species are known, but owing to its rarity it could be affected by tree felling or invasion of its habitat by Rhododendron Rhododendron ponticum . The Devon site is in a SSSI owned by The National Trust. The Cornish site, at Millook, where it occurs on young Ash Fraxinus excelsior , is not protected.
