Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Cryptosiphum artemisiae

Range & Status

Hemiptera: Aphididae; local.

Regional Distribution

VC1: SW87 Porthcothan in 2008, a first record for Cornwall.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated species: Mugwort Artemisia vulgaris . Gall causes some or most of the leaves to be thickened and curled together, especially towards the shoot tip; these are often pinkish purple and aphids are present under the leaves. The host plant is distributed all over Cornwall, and it seems strange that these aphids have not previously been recorded.
