The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.
Range & Status
Native Eurosiberian Boreo-temperate violet; also in Greenland. It is found throughout the British Isles but is in rapid decline.
Regional Distribution
Very rare. Recently seen at one site on The Lizard (SW71) and on Penhale Sands (SW75). Some of the old records maybe the Viola lactea x V. riviniana hybrid with which it has been previously confused. The status of this plant in the Isles of Scilly is under review, but it is clearly very rare.
Habitat & Ecology
Fixed dune-grassland. Older records are mostly from coastal localities and inland records need re-assessment.
Threats
None.
Conservation
The Penhale Sands site is part of the MOD protected area which is within the SAC.
