Range & Status

Hymenoptera: Cynipidae; agamic stage rare; sexual stages are also rare but the difference from another species, Cynips divisa , cannot be identified in the field.

Regional Distribution

Two agamic records from the same locality in one 10km square in VC1: SW53 in 1977 and 1984.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated species: Quercus spp. Sexual stage galls in buds or on leaves, agamic stage is a hard, globular gall with depression on top, occurring on the undersurface of the leaf, which has two chambers with larva in the one nearest the point of attachment. Often found on fallen leaves.

Threats

The destruction of oak woodlands.
