Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Bithynia tentaculata - Common Bithynia

Range & Status

This is a common aquatic species in Britain which is not threatened. In Cornwall it was discovered in 2001 in Argal Reservoir (SW73R), where it was almost certainly introduced with fish. However, since there is an unconfirmed pre-1900 report from Falmouth there is some uncertainty about the native status of the species in Cornwall.
