Choristocarpus tenellus - A brown algae

Range & Status

A rare, south-western species which until the 1980s was only known in the British Isles in 20m depth of water off the Isle of Man; otherwise only known from the Mediterranean. In 1981, this small alga was found at one site off the north-east Cornish coastline during a south-west Britain Sublittoral Survey (Maggs & Hiscock, 1979). The plant was relatively abundant on gravel at a depth of 20m.
