Range & Status
Widespread but very localised in Britain, absent from East Midlands and East Anglia.
Regional Distribution
Discovered at Ethy Woods in 1983.
Habitat & Ecology
Breeds in decaying timber in ancient broadleaved woodland or pasture-woodland, most often in shady acidic woodlands with Bracken Pteridium aquilinum understorey.
Threats
Conversion of ancient oakwoods to plantation forestry and removal of deadwood.
Conservation
Ethy Woods are owned by The National Trust.
