Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Phenacolimax major - Greater Pellucid Glass Snail

Range & Status

This species is recorded in Britain, France, Belgium and Germany. In Britain it is reported from 69 10 km grid squares and it is thought to be a declining species, where isolated habitats are at risk from felling or replanting with conifers. In Cornwall there are two sites: in SX37W near Luckett and SX46J at Cotehele Wood. P. major is a useful indicator of primary woodland which is a relatively uncommon habitat in Cornwall.
