Usnea madeirensis - a lichen



Range & Status

This shrubby or hanging yellow-green fruticose species is found on deciduous trees and shrubs in windy situations, Very rare, only known in Britain from west Cornwall, south Devon and west Scotland (Kintyre). Elsewhere it is known from south-west Europe and Macronesia. The Cornish site is within a SSSI. The recent localities should be re-visited to assess the size of the populations and identify any potential threats.
