Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Gammarus chevreuxi

Range & Status

A small shrimp-like species growing to about 13mm in length, found in brackish water in marshes and estuaries where it may be locally abundant. G.M. Spooner (M.B.A., 1957) describes it as ' found through Cornwall' but Bamber (2008) suggests that it is limited to six known sites, off Anglesey, North Wales and in south-west England, the estuaries of Fal, Fowey and Taw, off Plymouth and Teignmouth. Moves are being made to get it scheduled under the W&CA (Bamber, 2008).
