Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Achelia hispida

Range & Status

Body length approx. 2.5mm with 6mm legs. Probably only found offshore, and ' probably a southern species' (King, 1986). Polperro is the type locality (Hodge, 1864); also recorded from Devon, Dorset and County Wexford - the record from Northumberland is probably wrong (Bamber, 2000). Rostron (1983), has records from the Isles of Scilly. (Bamber anticipates making substantial changes in the species nomenclature in due course. pers. comm. 2008).
