Mytilus galloprovincialis - Padstow Mussel



Range & Status

This species is readily confused with Mytilus edulis and occurs intertidally on open coasts in high energy environments around south-west England, from south Devon, Cornwall and north Devon to south-west Wales. It also occurs on the southern and western coasts of Ireland and on the Sussex coast. On the coast of France it extends westward from Cherbourg and south to the Mediterranean. This Mediterranean Mussel is most commonly found on the north coast of Cornwall, especially in the Padstow area.
