Isoetes echinospora - Spring Quillwort



Range & Status

Native. Circumpolar Boreal-montane species. Scattered across western Britain.

Regional Distribution

Known from five sites only, in moorland pools, on Bodmin Moor (SX17), and recorded

from three of these since 1999. Probably still in the other pools.

Habitat & Ecology

In gravel-bottomed acid pools with shallow areas on Bodmin Moor.

Threats

Change of use to fishing lakes which can lead to higher levels of nutrients and silting. Drainage of pools is unlikely but cannot be ruled out.

00 Conservation

All the sites are SSSI.
